Interview with Jordan Paul

SBS:  Let’s make sure we’ve got everyone on the same page – who are ya?  How long have you been doin’ this music thang and what’s the story behind it all?  What separates you apart from the rest?

Jordan Paul:  Hi Jer, how are  you doing, mate?  Always good to touch base with you and check-in.  For those who don’t know me, I’m Jordan Paul and I’m a singer-songwriter.  I live at home with my friend ‘studio’ in Hamilton, Ontario.  Sometimes I lose my wallet on the first day of tour.

SBS:  How has this time in lockdown/quarantine affected you and the music you make?  Positives?  Negatives?  It’s obviously a crazy time for everyone, but certainly musicians throughout the independent scene as well…what have you been doing to make sure the music is still flowing somehow at this time?

Jordan Paul:  I haven’t done anything to ensure the flow of music… though maybe music’s done something to ensure the flow of me, if you catch my drift.  Anyways, people are losing lives here—and that’s not something I take lightly.  While I was initially disappointed to not see everyone on tour—it really is more sensible to just sit on my bum, do my part, and make records.  All things are temporary, and I think that soon enough we’ll be looking back on all this as a strange memory.

SBS:  Is there a lesson to be learned in all this Covid-craziness?  If so, what do you think it is?

Jordan Paul:  I think it’s exactly what I’m singing about in “Strange“… we gotta love eachother, before we’re out of time… cliché as it may sound!

SBS:  What is the most key thing that people can do out there to support musicians during this time?

Jordan Paul: Bandcamp has been great through all of this, and beforehand they were great too.. but they’ve taken the opportunity to waive their share of revenue on the first Friday of every month for a little while, and I think that’s really admirable.  People have responded to it and shown a seriously heartwarming outpouring of support for artists worldwide.  I’ve got a new single coming out on June 5th, and they are waiving revenue again that day.  It’s a song about the impact our loved ones who leave us too soon can have even after they’re gone, called Emerald Glass, those interested can grab it on the day at http://jordanpaul.bandcamp.com

SBS:  There are some that say there’s ‘no going back to normal’ and others that still think that’s a possibility after all is said & done and we’re allowed outside again…what do you think?  Let’s ballpark it…let’s say it’s…September 2020, that’s not too far away…what does the world look like at that point?

Jordan Paul:  Normalcy is such a hard thing to define.  Our scope of what life is as a human is so narrow and inadequately defined, as we’ve only existed to our knowledge in this one timeframe wherein so little has happened relative to the course of all time.  I take things moment by moment, and I find that’s the life for me.

SBS:  What do you miss most during this whole lockdown?  What’s the first thing you plan on doing if/when things find their way back to normal, and why is that the most important thing to ya?

Jordan Paul:  I miss hugs… I miss my local watering hole… I like to go there and have a Belgian beer, read a little, and chat with my neighbours.

SBS:  Open floor!  Anything else you want to say to the people out there?

Jordan Paul:  First off I want to thank you, Jer, for always being an advocate for independent musicians.  I also want to thank everyone who’s taken the time to listen to and share my new single “Strange.”  For those who haven’t heard it, it’s available everywhere http://smartulr.it/strange-2020

Sending you all so much love.  Stay weird, stay well.  Love, JP
