Friday Dies – “Hammer Down” – Video Post

Friday Dies, on a Sunday morning – let’s do this!

From what I can see out there, it looks like guitarist/vocalist Mark Friday has a solid idea of what he’s looking to create in his music as Friday Dies.  We’re talkin’ about druids, witches, warlocks, wizards, kingdoms and all that kind of stuff…you know, that whole realm that blurs the edge between where reality meets fantasy.  Dude has been busy as far as I can tell…you’ll find the earliest tracks on Spotify from Friday Dies trace back to 1995, but here we are, nearly thirty years later, and Mark is firing up the machine again.  And why not right?  If you’re doing what you love, there’s no time limit on how long you should be able to do it for…throw the “Hammer Down” and let’er rip if you’re feeling so inclined I say!  According to the official website, Friday Dies has been around even longer, with roots that go back all the way into the eighties…so make no mistake, this band has been around and it’s clearly here to stay.  From merchandise to mailing lists, this band might be led by one man at this point, but the pieces are all in the right place where the fans would wanna find’em to show their support.  You’ll even discover some remarkable musings on the social media pages too, like this all-caps gem I love from back in December of 2023 that reads, “WORD TO THE MF – WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN?”  You gotta love it, am I right?

As you can see from the lyric video above, Friday Dies has got a bunch of flashy visuals for ya onscreen to support this Metal-tinged tune.  I usually find myself fairly indifferent on lyric videos when it comes right down to it, but that’s usually because words are generally a very static element, and most folks tend to write about the same damn things over and over again.  I might not have any particular stake in the world of fantasy with druids and witches and whatnot, but at the very least, it’s not the same thing I usually experience day after day – I appreciate that.  I also dig how the words in this video leap right the heck off the screen atcha, or rumble and vibrate when things get intense in “Hammer Down” – it’s these kind of crucial details that tend to give lyric videos the opportunity to make a lasting impact on viewers.  You combine that, with smart supporting imagery like the animated ships sailing, and the battle scenes, and for sure, it’s easy to see that Friday Dies has got something on-brand to pair with what you’ll hear.  It’s entertaining and engaging, and more importantly, it audibly and visually communicates the passion that Friday Dies has in its sound, as well as the genuine interest it has for themes like you’ll find in this single “Hammer Down.”  Like I’ve told ya many times on these pages of ours, the more you’re into what you do, the more the people will be too – and in that respect, a song like this puts Friday Dies in the position where they can bring in fans from outside of the Fantasy genre, or regular listeners to Metal, and broaden their audience.  So if you’re looking for something different than the rest of what you’ve been listening to, or you’re lookin’ for a new reason to check out some animated warriors and battle themes onscreen – Friday Dies is ready and willing to supply.  A band with a storied legacy of its own, Mark Friday continues to make sure the people out there around the world from one corner of the map to the other have had the opportunity to tune in & turn up the music of Friday Dies – and if you haven’t done that yourself by now, there’s no time like the present to click play on the video above, and enjoy.
