Tango Spleen Orquesta – “La Musa Del Arrabal”

Tango Spleen Orquesta – “La Musa Del Arrabal”

Tango Spleen Orquesta – “La Musa Del Arrabal” – Single Review

Honestly, I love it when music comes to our Canadian pages from so far away.  You regular readers already know that about me by now I’m sure, but sometimes I’ve just gotta put it here in print so that I can remind myself about the fact I’ve got one of the coolest jobs in the entire world.  We’ve got Tango Spleen Orquesta on our pages this morning, serving up Tango music all the way from Italy – how awesome is that?  Anyone over here in Canada or even down south in the USA knows full well that you’d have to actively seek out some kind of Tango tune on your own if you were going to hear one – it’s just not what we’ve got on the radio or in our city streets and we get such little exposure to it.  And that’s a shame when it comes right down to it.  I mean, I get it, it’s probably not in lockstep with the rest of what’s happening in our own mainstream music culture on this side of the map, but at the same time, I sure wish that I was living in a place that was looking to proactively discover the magic music has to offer us all.  Doing that requires the desire to check out a variety of different styles and sounds, which would then require some effort from our lazy North American ways…but hopefully…hopefully at least a few of you reading our pages on the regular come back time and again to find something that you wouldn’t elsewhere.  Tango Spleen Orquesta is filled with pure talent & masters of their craft without a doubt.

From what I understand, you’re actually a lot more likely to find this ensemble onstage than you will in recorded form so far.  While they’ve played hundreds of festivals and shows all over the map in over twenty-five countries to-date, they’ve only got about six official recordings so far as well, which span a range of more than a decade.  “La Musa Del Arrabal” definitely gives us a glimpse of their theatrical style of Tango music and I think any of us listening could quickly hear how well it would work in a live setting.  That’s not to take anything away from what we hear recorded – I genuinely think that they’ve done an exceptional job in getting their live energy into “La Musa Del Arrabal,” which is never an easy task for an artist or band to accomplish.  But yeah…this song feels like a true experience; you can practically see it in your mind as you listen and picture how Tango Spleen Orquesta would go about playing this for a crowd.

The composition is clearly impressive, intricate, and involved – but it’s the execution by Tango Spleen Orquesta that makes something like “La Musa Del Arrabal” so spectacular to listen to.  While I wouldn’t want to mislead anyone out there and claim that I’m the world’s leading authority on what makes Tango music great – from my personal perspective, it’s gotta have a really good mix of potent drama and tangible emotion to it, and “La Musa Del Arrabal” has plenty of both of these ingredients.  You factor in how skillful the musicianship and vocals are in Tango Spleen Orquesta are, and I’m tellin’ ya folks – whether you thought you were a fan of Tango music or not up til this very moment in time, once you push play on this new single, you might find out you enjoy it a whole lot more than you’d ever assume.

It’s adventurous, it’s colorful, it’s a stellar array of celebratory sound that demands you pay attention to it…and above all things, it’s played with such dedication that you can tell the players in Tango Spleen Orquesta bring their heart and soul to every moment you hear.  Again, I might not be the end-all or be-all opinion of Tango music in this world, but I’d personally be hard pressed to find a better example of how it’s done than what I’ve heard here in Tango Spleen Orquesta – this crew gets it as right as right can be from start to finish, and keep you completely entertained with “La Musa Del Arrabal” from beginning to end.  Resounding skill, undeniable passion, and brilliant musicianship – Tango Spleen Orquesta is a wonderful example of how charming & captivating cultural sound can be to the world, and how when it’s done right, it has the potential to travel miles & miles away from the place it calls home.
