 Shambhu – “Lilac Skies”

Shambhu – “Lilac Skies” – Single Review

This talented Jazz guitarist has already lived quite the life and had some extraordinary opportunities come his way throughout his adventures.  Like say, take where it all began…you know, back in the day when he was growing up with guitar players that became celebrated & world-renowned talents like virtuoso John McLaughlin and the inimitable Carlos Santana – how’s that for a start?  Or how about the fact that, later on in life, all these early relationships & his dedication to music led Shambhu through six-degrees-of-Kevin-Bacon to eventually being enlisted as a player on the debut album from a soulful talent known as the one & only Whitney Houston?  Shambhu has had a taste of success in many ways already – were these the only tales of his legacy in music, I know I’d personally be more than satisfied with that.

Facts are though, Shambhu still has much, much more he wants to accomplish…and if I had one tenth of the talent he has, I could completely understand why the passion for making music has continued to burn so strongly over the years.  As it stands, as a writer, I can only imagine…but we should all be able to recognize what we hear in this new single called “Lilac Skies” for what it truly is – Shambhu has a genuine gift and audible connection to his guitar that simply could not ever be denied by any set of ears.  The comforting sound of “Lilac Skies” is about as much confirmation as you could ever experience in listening to a tune that an artist is right in the place where they’re truly meant to be…everything is welcoming, inviting, and absolutely feels like it was always destined to come together just like it has.  Fluid and organic in its design, but remarkably tight & professional too – the controlled Jazz techniques of Shambhu’s subtle & mellow single “Lilac Skies” become a sincerely soul-soothing master-class on chilled-out sound & relaxing vibes that flow straight towards the heart.  Incidentally…it definitely seems like that’s no coincidence…I happened to check out another song called “Edge Of Eternal” from back in 2014 in the process of writing this, & I can confirm, Shambhu has always put a real magic into his music.

He’s enjoyed a great amount of success in the New Age music-community and gained a faithful following of fans that appreciate the smooth textures & tones Shambhu is capable of creating so well.  “Lilac Skies” is a much more decisive shift into Jazz for sure, but it’s a welcome move that will likely not only please the massive crowd of existing fans he currently has, but creates a whole new opportunity through this crossover cut to invite a whole bunch more new fans into Shambhu’s world of music.  Every bit as stunning as you’d expect it to be with the incredible resume he’s already compiled & experience he’s gained throughout the years, “Lilac Skies” comes out impressively flawless & completely engaging.  From the amazing piano supporting the melody, to the intricate guitar work, to the excellent way that the rhythm section so subtly complements this entire vibe through the spot-on bass & percussion – “Lilac Skies” flexes gentle innovation, smooth creativity, and warm comforting tones from start to finish.  It might be a tender & mild melody at the end of the day, but between the glow of the flute sounds and nostalgia-inducing chimes floating in on the wind, “Lilac Skies” produces an endlessly dreamy result that I simply couldn’t get enough of.  It’s a single built upon entirely non-offensive & supremely inviting sound from the ground up – I’m sure it’s not just me; could anyone out there resist this charming tune?

Like I’ve been saying from the get-go, this ain’t an artist that needs any additional confirmation of his talent, let alone from our tiny corner of the internet – Shambhu is a world-class entertainer, through and through – and this new Jazz suit he’s wearing here, is certainly one that fits him extremely well.
