Young E Class – “Hit The Plug” / “Grim”
Young E Class – “Hit The Plug” / “Grim” – Singles Review
“Fuck your feelings…”
Mine specifically? I suppose that’s fair. Jokes on you though bro – I stopped using those years ago.
What’s real is that Young E Class has definitely got a vibe fully relevant & built for what’s happening out there right now in the realm of Rap/Trap. Complete with a straight-up cinematic, full-scale video to support it, “Hit The Plug” reveals the depth in the team surrounding this future all-star. While he’s in the chair gettin’ lined-up, he’s still fully functional running his business, takin’ calls, keeping things movin,’ and handlin’ his business like a boss…don’t go thinkin’ that Young E Class takes any time off, he’s on his grind 24/7. I dig what I see in this guy…he’s got the true grit required to really make something out of this whole music business, but even more crucially, I like what I hear in the material all-around. From the rhythm and melody in his hooks, to the way he rocks his verses, he’s on-point at all times and clearly has a solid grip on what makes music connect…and in the long run, that’s gonna play to his advantage for sure. He’s pretty much a veteran of the game already…from what I can tell Young E Class is about six or seven years into his career, and when you see/hear the quality in a single like “Hit The Plug” you understand why he’s continued to thrive. Essentially, it’s a timeless vibe that he’s rockin’ with – some of you might get that, some of you might not, but the reality is that it’s exactly that…the kind of music he’s making started long ago & will be around long, long after both Young E Class and I are gone. If he keeps up the quality like he’s got goin’ on here though, rest assured, he might just go down as one of the best to ever do it…”Hit The Plug” is like a highlight reel for what makes this man’s music so great, designed with hooks that are beyond memorable.
For real…Young E Class’ future is way more bright than it is “Grim” – not only does he have the sound that people are searchin’ for to add to their Spotify playlists right now, but he’s genuinely gifted when it comes to his verbal imagery. The definition of the beat on “Grim” is LARGE…so that part will be a crowd pleaser for sure…if you’ve got a system that can hang with it, believe me, you’re gonna love the production on a track like this for sure. Overall, it’s a single that definitely works well though…it’s damn poetic when it comes right down to it…if that hurts his street cred, apologies, but I’m spittin’ the facts here. We just watched the video for “Hit The Plug” only moments earlier though, and you saw it for yourself…if you wanna be the person to step to him and tell him that being a modern-day poet is some kind of thing to be ashamed about, I’ll definitely leave that up to you – this dude’s stacked and I’m just a small mammal…I would not survive the beating he could put on me and I am not gonna be the one to lie about that. For the record, to me, any comment on his poetic nature would only be a well-earned compliment. All-around, it’s a single-worthy track without a doubt…”Grim” cuts deep with the words, and illustrates a life of hard livin’ that is just that much better than dyin.’ Young E Class proves he’s not afraid to get gritty and dive straight into the trenches if need be…but thankfully, he’s got the kind of skills on the mic that should keep him out of’em. You see the imagery in a song like this though…you can smell the gun-smoke, you can feel the intensity running deep, you can feel how “Grim” this vibe could become if things in this situation go sideways, which it sounds like they just might. You get the point, it’s a vivid single – and that’s credit to Young E Class for his ability to make every word come to life while bodies are droppin’ and he’s got murda on his mind. Which according to what I’ve read, is legitimate – he was actually convicted of murder when he was only fifteen years old, and spent thirteen years locked up. Word on the street is that he hit the studio the moment he got out, and he’s been chasing his real dreams ever since. I’m glad he’s out doin’ what he was always meant to be doin’ now…you can’t be murderin’ forever, it takes a whole lot out of a person. This ain’t a track for the faint of heart y’all…this cut is built as the bulletproof anthem for those that have been to the “Grim” spots in life that most other folks would never even dare to set a foot in.
