Vertacyn Arc Materializer – “Nicotine Chewing Gum”
Vertacyn Arc Materializer – “Nicotine Chewing Gum” – Single Review
Oh you know me…just doing what I do, reviewing music & seeing what’s out there in the scene like I always do whilst contemplating my existence…
…let me see what’s next on the ol’ list here…
Vertacyn Arc Materializer?
Huh? What am I doing with my life?
And why the hell do I dig this as much as I do?
Listen. I don’t think anyone out there is going to properly put this band into words with any kind of real accuracy…because that’s clearly impossible…but I honestly do really fucking like what I’m hearing here. To be fair to me (which, let’s face it, I’m the only one who’s gonna be) – I don’t think even THEY have any idea about what they’ve really stumbled into here either…but this…THIS…should definitely keep going. It’s like finding the band I DON’T KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME, only sprinkled with a little extra crack & unbridled creativity. “Unexpect the expected all of the time” seems like the right quote to pull that sums this whole experience up pretty much perfectly – I know what you’re thinking…it doesn’t REALLY make sense, does it? Read it again…consider what you’re hearing…understand this ain’t GOOD but that it’s GREAT…and you’ll realize it’s basically a freakin’ genius variation of the double-negative rule in a way. To “unexpect the expected” would imply that you SHOULD ‘expect the unexpected’ – are you following along yet? It’s the most bizarre way of getting that message across, but again, when you HEAR this band & what they do, you’ll completely get it – Vertacyn Arc Materializer ain’t here to do things normal y’all. This is about the most fun I’ve had in discovering the random side of sound since listening to Fog’s “Inflatable Ape Pt. 1” back in the day. I’m comfortable with that as a comparison…they’ve got the spirited energy of I DON’T KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME, with the wonderful weirdness of Fog.
That’s me, shooting my shot y’all…like I said, there’s no one out there that’s gonna be gifted enough to fully describe the sonic strangeness to be found in Vertacyn Arc Materializer. What IS a Vertacyn Arc Materializer you ask? Who the hell knows? TRY and ask Google…it’ll just lead you to a dead end – but the MUSIC will lead ya into some of the most unpredictable kickass moments of your miserable days, I assure you. Like…I’ve had nothing but construction happening around me for days, as the big machines tear down the houses behind me, and Vertacyn Arc Materializer sounds SO MUCH BETTER THAN THAT, I’ll never be able to detail my true gratefulness for “Nicotine Chewing Gum” in full. I am ALL ABOUT THIS though…make no mistake – this kind of wacky, unexplored, expressive, audible adventurism is right up my alley – and hopefully, up yours too! We can of course point to pivotal artists like Thomas Dolby who would have originally bent the sound and broken the ground required for Vertacyn Arc Materializer to exist today…which again, I’m certainly thankful for. There’s just so much in here that “Nicotine Chewing Gum” defies any kind of description…but it’s not a song that’s simply throwing sound against the wall to see what sticks either – this is actually extremely well-played, and clearly equally well thought-out. I’d say there’s a solid chance that there’s nothing like it on your playlists right now – but rather than be as scared of that idea as you normally are, try embracing the weird with open ears for once instead. If you do that, I can virtually guarantee ya that “Nicotine Chewing Gum” is way more addictive than you’d think it was based on anything I’ve written down here, or anything else you’ve read about’em for that matter. Vertacyn Arc Materializer is here to do things differently…from the textures & tones & wild frequencies in the mix, to the ridiculously catchy hooks they create – “Nicotine Chewing Gum” is as MEMORABLE of an experience with music as you’ll ever be lucky enough to have in your LIFE. You might not know what in the hell you were just listening to, but I can promise that you’ll remember you DID.
You need this boldly zany uniqueness much more than you know – you’re welcome for the introduction.
