Irene Michaels – “I Like Rain” (Joe Smooth Radio Dance Mix) – Single Review

Ayyy what do you know – Irene Michaels and I have something in common – “I Like Rain” too!

To be truthful, I might even like this single better than my favorite weather – and there’s not a doubt in my mind that I felt like “I Like Rain” was a cut above how I felt about her music the last time around when I reviewed her collaboration with Joe Smooth on “Hush Money” towards the end of 2022. They’re back in action together once again for this brand-new tune, and though I haven’t had it very long, I can vouch for this single definitely being the best I’ve heard from these two artists to-date. It’s one of those things y’all…sometimes when you know, you know…when everything’s in the right place, you can hear it. Originally I wondered whether or not I’d be able to squeeze this track onto our pages before I hit the skies on my way to vacation this year, but after giving it a couple spins and then ravenously consuming a couple more – I knew I had to make sure I got this single up on our pages for you to check out yourself!

In all honesty, this is much more of a case of what’s not to love? Joe Smooth is as stellar as ever in supplying a single-worthy beat & professional quality to the production – and of course, Irene Michaels once again proves she’s got a ton to offer the music scene, even as she passes the seventy-five mark. We can truly all only hope that we’ll be doing what we love and following our passions with as much heart, dedication, and sincerity as Irene brings to her music at this point in her career – she sounds absolutely fantastic on “I Like Rain” and gives this single a fluidly flawless performance. She’s got a genuinely dreamy vibe, and it pairs brilliantly with the stunning Electro-based sound created by the legendary Joe Smooth – “I Like Rain” is a collaboration in full-effect, and you couldn’t possibly miss it.

When things work out this well, it’s easy for everyone to hear – these two are the audible definition of what universal sound is on “I Like Rain.” The kind of song that speaks to your soul, with a beat that can’t be denied – they’re really working their melodic magic on ya with this brand-new single. From what I can tell & what I’ve heard – I’m not the only one out there excited about this tune either – Irene and Joe have got “I Like Rain” being officially distributed on SONY of all labels, and it’s already being submitted around the internet for various awards & whatnot, which would certainly be well-deserved as far as I can hear. There’s simply nothing that’s been left out of “I Like Rain” – it’s a fantastic example of a song having absolutely everything it needs, and an authentic professional’s touch from performance to production. Remarkably catchy too if you ask me…and it seems like someone did, so there you have it, that’s my opinion & I’m sure you’ll share it – I’ll be singing this song around the house for quite some time. If you like it as much as I do, and you want MORE of it – I’ve got GREAT NEWS FOR YOU too – you can actually find this single online released with a “Joe Smooth Extended Dance Mix” in addition to three other stellar variations on the song, including a version from Michael A. Levine & two from DJ THADX. So before you go thinking that the weather is some kind of bummer – you just wait until you have a listen through this set of songs on the “I Like Rain” single from Irene Michaels and Joe Smooth – I’d be willing to bet you’ll be doing your own rain dance to encourage a few more drops after you have a listen for yourself! You’ll also find brand-new tunes like “Stolen Memories” and “I’m The One” featured in the set-list for ya as well – and there’s no doubt that if you like what you hear in the main single, you’ll like those too…but there’s also no denying that “I Like Rain” is the real star of the show this time around. I’m genuinely stoked to hear things come out so incredibly well for these two! I know how well they work together based on what I’ve heard in the past, but “I Like Rain” really reveals the full strength of this collaboration in the most inspired & boldly delicate ways. Credit where credit is due – I was practically wheels up and ready to roll out for vacation, ready to finish off what little was on my schedule before leaving…but after hearing the perfection they’ve achieved with this new single of theirs, I had to make sure I shared “I Like Rain” with ya. Wonderful stuff from Joe Smooth and Irene Michaels here – they continue to prove that they’re a pair of artists that completely know how to complement each other’s strengths, excel together collaboration, and create songs you’ll truly find 100% irresistible.
