Best New Sound 2016 Nomination: Jack Of None
I was, am and am-still impressed by the way this band of three-siblings, all spread-out throughout the globe created one of the darkest & most vibrantly artistic albums of the entire year; Jack Of None held nothing back on their album Who’s Listening To Van Gogh’s Ear? and fully committed themselves to every idea and sound they put into the writing of the music & lyrics they created. Enormously entertaining – the depth in sound explores the haunting, surreal and extreme while the lyrics incorporate stunning poetry written with perfectly matching attitudes, performances and words to go with the music; I heard a great many things this year but not one of them came close to how seriously unique this record was from the rest out there from the moment it starts to when it ended. Breathtaking material that really explored the twisted & bizarre – everything from the words to the music on this record truly defined what it means to be cutting edge; they made uncompromising true-art with no apologies…and as a result, no apologies were necessary – the tracks from Who’s Listening To Van Gogh’s Ear? either scarred me for life or really did make the intense impression I claimed it did when reviewing the album in May of this year. I’ll leave that up to you to judge over time – but in either of those scenarios – it’s inarguable that Jack Of None made an incredible impact on me this year and absolutely deserve to be a part of this year’s top-10!
Jack Of None is one of ten official nominations to this year’s SBS Reader Vote for Best New Sound 2016 beginning Dec. 14th – congrats to the incredible contribution they’ve made in combination of art & music this year!
