Velvet Cash & Rvkah – “Algorithm” – Single Review

It has been a hot minute or two since we last had Rvkah on our pages and we’re glad to have her back.  It was back in 2022 that we reviewed a handful of singles she’d put out from The Love EP, and from what I can see, she’s kept pretty busy ever since with singles like “Terminated,” “No Question,” and “Becoming My Ex” released, and two more out this year so far with “Plan 4 U,” and her latest called “Algorithm” in collaboration with Velvet Cash.  LISTEN to this track will ya?  From the moment you push play on “Algorithm,” you’ll hear the severe depth of the low-end infused vibes & the immediate impact it goes on to establish.  We always talk about how first impressions can be such a crucial aspect in terms of getting people to listen to music, and when you click on “Algorithm,” you can hear a stellar example of how to go about creating an instant reaction – this whole song is designed to attract your attention!  Plus it’s got a wicked new video to go with it – check it out!

I’ve long maintained that when a collaboration truly works out, it’s something you can hear in the performance.  Material-wise, you can have great songs that crash & burn because the chemistry in the combination of talents didn’t quite mix…but when everything is clickin’ you’ll find that performances can take a good song and turn it into a great one.  Now…maybe you have to have been doin’ what I do for as long as I’ve been doin’ it, I don’t know, but from my personal perspective, you can always tell what you’re in-store for from the very first moments in a collaboration and you’ll know which end of that spectrum you’re listening to.  In this case, I feel like Rvkah and Velvet Cash are not only crushin’ it with an outstanding performance, but they also had the good fortune of having exceptional material to work with as well.  “Algorithm” is a tight song, that’s the facts, that’s the reality here – and what might very well make it even more awesome is that this duo could have settled for that, but instead opted to really go after this single with everything they had to push this single-worthy sound straight to the next level.

It’s another one of those wonderful, no notes kind of situations.  It makes my job super easy if I’m being honest with ya – I can just kick my feet up on my desk here & relax, because the song speaks volumes on its own behalf.  I don’t just make things up to be critical about, and I can’t hear anything that Velvet Cash or Rvkah could have done any better than they already did it on “Algorithm.”  All-in-all, it’s got that icy-hot mix…stylistically it has this cold sound to it, but it also brings the heat through the hooks as well – it reminds me a lot of what we hear in the music of Good Spells to a degree, but with a bit more of a spark to it, in my opinion.  In any event, it’s all positive – I love what each of these artists did with their time on the mic as they trade verses in the lead, and when playing the support role, they’re equally effective.

What you’re hearing on “Algorithm” is a complete collaboration – there are no mistakes or missteps to be found here, and these two genuinely complement each other.  No weak points…the material is fully engaging, the sonic depth of “Algorithm” is relentlessly impressive, and I really don’t think you could have gotten a better performance outta either of these two stars – they nailed it.  While it’s true that I only ever end up with singles a short time before I’m writing about’em, I maintain that we all know what excellence sounds like when we hear it – and this is that.  The beat is perfection, the music is fantastic, the hooks are bulletproof, and the X-factor talent of Rvkah & Velvet Cash could not possibly be missed.  Flawlessly produced to enhance and accentuate the potent dynamics that are threaded into the DNA of this song, this duo sounds as compelling as they are in control of every note, tone, and syllable they add to “Algorithm.”  When things go right, it’s impossible not to notice – from your very first spin to the many times you’ll want to repeat your way through this song, this is a quality collaboration that never fails to impress no matter how many times you listen.  Take it from me, because I’ve got relevant experience in what I’m talking about!  Yes, I’ve only had this song for a short time as I’ve already told ya – but at 2:49 in length and armed with the solid hooks this single has?  Rest assured, I’ve spun this song more times than you realize right now…and understand you’re about to feel the same way I do about it.

So clear your schedule, because you’re about to make some real time to listen to “Algorithm” tonight.  It’s definitely up there with the most well-balanced & complete cuts I’ve heard this year, and highlights the pure talents of two names in the game you should definitely become familiar with as they go on to dominate 2025.  Textbook definition of a great single here – “Algorithm” is guaranteed to impress you.
