Stephanie Braganza – “Until We Meet Again” – Single Review

As I like to remind ya from time to time, I only ever have singles for a very short time before I’m out here writing about them…but if I had to make a snap judgement on Stephanie Braganza’s latest single “Until We Meet Again,” I think I might be inclined to tell ya that it’s likely the best I’ve heard from her to-date.

If we’re digging right into my experiences with her music, which originally date back to her 2017 single “Chains Of Silence,” and “Feel A Little Less” from earlier this year…I think “Until We Meet Again” makes for another interesting chapter into her overall story arc as an artist.  I’m still gonna argue right down to the last word that “Chains Of Silence” is one of the most memorable moments I’ve ever had with pretty much any song out there by any band or artist when you consider the outright shocking video that came along with it…like…I’ve never forgotten her since, and I’ve mentioned the story of watching that video & the impact it made as an example to many people throughout the years.  When it came to what I heard from her back in April of this year, I did in fact, “Feel A Little Less” strongly about it…or maybe a lot less, if I’m being honest with ya.  So heck yeah, it’s truly nice to hear her score another solid win with her brand-new song “Until We Meet Again” – this single highlights a lot about what she’s capable of and what she contributes to the music scene we share.  Vocally, I think she did a stellar job in singing this…in fact, I’ve got no substantial complaints about anything she’s done with her performance from start to finish really.  Musically, I think there’s a monumental hook that shines so bright from the guitar that it damn near steals the show, but make no mistake, I think this is a pretty well rounded track.

I think the only real question I had after listening to this song over this past weekend, was about how much context matters to the listeners out there.  It SHOULD matter to an extent, though of course, once you put something out there into the artistic realm, people internalize what they experience and give it all their own personal meaning…but it SHOULD still be interesting to learn about the original inspirations behind the things we like, right?  I promise you it’s safe to do…whatever a song means to you will still be that at the end of the day, regardless of what the writer’s original intentions were.  Like, in the case of a song like “Until We Meet Again,” I’m sure a lot of people out there will hear this as a bittersweet, melancholy love song.  And rightly so mind you, to an extent, that’s exactly what it is.  Having said that, I think many of you would be surprised to learn that what Stephanie’s singing about isn’t an expression of love to another human being – it’s actually about her dog Pom-Pom that passed away (R.I.P.).  For myself personally, having this context to the story put me that much more onboard with Stephanie’s new single.  For some, it might not matter as much I guess, but in my own case as a person that’s heard just about everything under the sun at this point and has the grey hairs to prove it, I felt like this was a great twist to the songwriting that many wouldn’t have seen coming, even after they’ve heard it.  There is no line in “Until We Meet Again” that specifically references her dog or Pom-Pom by name – you’d have to read the online liner notes to really know what Stephanie’s singing about, and I generally think that kind of writing is cool…because it does allow YOU to form your own meanings and personalize it all.

Of course, if you see the animated video that comes along with “Until We Meet Again,” it becomes that much clearer what this song is really all about – but isn’t that one of its greatest strengths at the end of the day?  Relatable too right?  However sad that might be…and this IS a song that’s as perilously sad as it is sweet…I think many of us can unfortunately relate to the tragedy of losing our favorite four legged friends.  The video that comes along with “Until We Meet Again” is a perfect fit if you ask me…so cute, but so absolutely capable of pulling tears right outta your face if you’re not prepared too, so consider yourselves warned.  I don’t think any of us are ever ready to let our furry loved ones go, but I very much appreciate Braganza’s perspective on the aftermath of it all…the belief that we will in fact, meet again one day.  I know life’s a lot easier when you can put some stock in that, and count me among those that hope it’s true…human, animal, or otherwise I suppose – if whatever our memories are made of come back to us one day & we get to spend time with their light & love once again, please sign me up for that.

All-in-all, I’d tell you that she’s ultimately got something that’s just as meaningful as it is memorable with her new single – and you gotta love a combination like that.  The most you might find me conceding to ya is that it takes maybe a verse for you to warm up to it, but once you reach the chorus, I think Stephanie’s got a solid chance of winning the majority of you over.  The hooks in this song, whether you’re talking about her vocal melody or what you’ll find in the music, are all endearing & sincere.   Let’s be real here, for as smooth as it sounds, there’s some remarkable demands being put on Braganza’s voice whether it’s to keep the tones fluid & smooth, or hitting the highest notes of “steady,” “ready,” & “memory” as she sings her way through the chorus – she really brings out the sweetness in every moment so that we’re not all crying constantly as we listen to her brand-new single.  “Until We Meet Again” is a wonderful song when it comes right down to it…as tough as it can be to hear in its most bittersweet moments, you’ll find Stephanie’s singing about nothing other than love at the core of it all.
