Nullus Rex – “Robbing You Blind” – Single Review

Not that there actually IS such a thing as bipartisan issues we can agree on objectively anymore, but IF there was, I’d like to think one of the top three we’d come to a consensus on is the crooked-ass way that the BIG GOVERNMENT has continually had their grubby ass hands in our pockets from day fucking one.  Call it whatever you like – taxes or outright THEFT – the redistribution of wealth is an economic DISEASE that constantly afflicts us all.  And you know what?  The nastiest part of it all is how normalized to it that we’ve all become.  From at least the Sheriff Of Nottingham on-forward, we should have collectively pushed back so much more on how much of our paychecks we’re allowed to keep, while also being much more forceful in demanding to know the SPECIFIC particulars in where what they take ends up going.  Instead, now we’ve got this absolutely SICK ASS level of celebrity WORSHIP when it comes to POLITICIANS?  What in the actual fuck is going on with US?  Nullus Rex already said it best the last time around when pointing out that we’re living in “The Upside Down,” but I’m happy to have Dave Amaditz, the man & mind behind this project on our side.  A powerful ally that is unafraid to use his platform to call things as they are, he’s EARNED our respect, and “Robbing You Blind” is further confirmation that he’s willing to stand up for what’s right.  “Behind every fortune there is a crime” might be one of THE most truthful and shockingly insightful statements I’ve ever heard inside of a song before.  To think that there is a large fraction of our society that looks up to these assholes that control our fate through the pennies they allow us to keep as they accept millions and billions in BONUSES they achieve by breaking the backs of our fellow workers…I mean…it’s staggering…maddening…gross…and basically fucking awful.  The real question is, do we have any further recourse to combat the system, or is it all so corrupted at this point that we’re way past the point of no return?  I don’t have the answer to that…or at least, not one that’s optimistic enough for me to feel it’s worth sharing.  What I can tell you is that people like Dave are immensely important.  His speaking up through his music will give someone ELSE the courage to do the same, and with a little luck, so on and so on.  I mean, look at me right now – I’ve barely even talked about the music in this review, and music is pretty much ALL I talk about, 24/7.  Mostly because the alternative is freakin’ NASTY right now; I don’t mind the occasional departure here and there, but the idea that I’d join the conversation/hysteria of constantly talking politics all day, every day is outright LAUGHABLE when half the population has become as checked out as it is today.  So I stay in my lane and I talk about music, because that’s the only TRUTH I’ve ever known…and for sure, even when tracks like “Robbing You Blind” come my way that still remains to be true.  Mind you, this is just how far I’ve come dear readers, dear friends – my lane USED to be politics back when I took political science in college.

Anyhow.  What I usually like to remind you of is this – if I’m barely even talkin’ about the music I’m listening to in a review, it’s almost always because what I’m hearing is making me THINK – and yes, I LOVE that.  “Robbing You Blind” got me FIRED THE FUCK ON UP and typing in ALL CAPS!  You regular readers out there (yes, all six of you) know what that means.  It means we’ve stumbled onto music with genuine SUBSTANCE to it…and I suspect that’s precisely what Amaditz set out to create with Nullus Rex.  Combined with the intensity you’ll find in the music and vocals that accompanies the words Dave has written, “Robbing You Blind” is one of those perfect matches where the sound complements the intent.  It’s FORCEFUL…and you can FEEL the sense of URGENCY that a song like this comes with.  A song like this has PURPOSE behind it, and in my heart of hearts, I can only hope that the message it has is received by the people out there.  I will be real with ya…that hope is getting diminished by the day as the rights of our society continually get stripped away from us and we get poorer, sicker, and downright DUMBER – but there’s an optimism in me that still refuses to be extinguished.  It’s probably just stubbornness.  Like, if I came to the conclusion that I didn’t want to hold onto some hope and optimism on my own accord, maybe I’d be willing to accept that reality…but the idea that others (politicians) want to define the reality we live in, be it ideologically, economically, or otherwise…I mean…I CHOOSE to reject that by all accounts on every level.  Sounds like Dave is with me on that from what I take away from a track like this – and you’ll hear other aspects of what’s currently wrong with the system in his lyricism in this single.  He’ll allude to neighbors doors being knocked down in the middle of night.  He’ll reference the “gilded age” in his words as well.  It is no coincidence that he’s bringing these things up, and if you’ve been paying attention, you’ll know exactly what he’s talkin’ about.  As a society, we’re only as good as what we’re willing to accept…and if we truly want change, that’s never going to happen by sitting on the sidelines.  You’ve gotta have some skin in the game, and every fucking one of us does…we just don’t all realize that, because we’ve largely been blind for a whole lot longer than we realized.  We’ve been conditioned and groomed to think that the one system we’re in is the only one that will work, and that’s simply not the truth.  All empires eventually fall as a result of their own hubris, and we’re watching that happening in real-time right now with the horrific ways that democratic rights are being MULCHED by tangerine Mussolini and his gang of political thugs and criminals down south.  We’re in a paralytic state that believes we have no ability to steer the Titanic away from the impending doom of the iceberg ahead…and it’s generally fucking EMBARASSING.  We’re better than we’ve been and we’re stronger than we think we are…but if we don’t WAKE THE FUCK UP and realize the power we have SOON…it’s all over.

There will be consequences far more dire than just having BIG GOVERNMENT “Robbing You Blind,” rest assured…but we still have time to change course.  We need a whole lot more people like Dave out there pointing out what reality really IS…people that are willing to STAND FOR SOMETHING before we fall for NOTHING.  I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – music is the ONLY truth you’ve ever really known, and songs like “Robbing You Blind” are completely proof that that’s true.  Keep up the great work Dave – we need you more than ever right now, to be the change we want to see in the world, and to sound real damn good doin’ it.  Nullus Rex is crushin’ it once again on this latest single…it’s much more than music.
