Mike Di Lorenzo & Anna Moore – “Glad It Happened To Me”

Mike Di Lorenzo & Anna Moore – “Glad It Happened To Me” – Single Review
Yeah, sure, yeah…I’m cool with this.
I don’t have too much experience with the music of Mike Di Lorenzo and Anna Moore, but I do remember them from the last time I reviewed their music back in 2023 for a song called “Holding All My Love.” Much of what I remember seems to feel like it would apply to their latest song, “Glad It Happened To Me” – as I spun my way through it, I thought to myself, ‘this is that duo that sounded like Lisa Stansfield from back in the day, isn’t it?’ Lo and behold, after looking up their past review to confirm I wasn’t crazy, here we are…I did compare their last single to Stansfield’s work, so it’s a safe bet that if this new single reminds me of her too, then it must be somewhat of a legitimate comparison, right? I’ll tell you this much though…regardless of who you might feel these two would be the most comparable to, which I’m sure we’d all have fun debating…it might just be easier if we all agree on what we know to be objectively true instead, which is that “Glad It Happened To Me” sounds excellent.
Personally speaking, I don’t hear anything in this song that would make me feel like I need to make some kind of complaint. The music is colorful, smooth, upbeat, and has an insatiable groove to it once it kicks into full gear, somewhere just past the forty second mark. Mike’s designed it well…the opening forty seconds or so of “Glad It Happened To Me” possesses that feeling like it’s definitely going somewhere, and soon. So while it’s kind of got this like, piece by piece way of building itself up, I think it’s also structured in a way that informs our ears that there’s a whole lot more on the way. Probably due to the way you get a solid dose of color in the music when you first push play on “Glad It Happened To Me” I suppose…when Mike dials back the sound to just a bare-bones beat in the opening verse, by that point already our ears have had a peek into the future. When you tick past that forty second mark, they’re instantly rewarded with the bass-line grooves that create the vibe you wanna hear and bring the fun right to your speakers, and you also get the vocals of the fantastic Anna Moore sounding as inspired as ever. Much like when I remember listening to them for the very first time, it seems like these two belong together like peanut butter & jelly when it comes to the art of making music…they’re perfect complements to what the other brings to this collaboration. From Mike’s flawless professionalism and musicianship, the Anna’s sparkling blend of Soul/Pop vocals, they genuinely sound like they’re always on the same page from the very first beat all the way through to the last. The main hook of the vocals, where Anna sings “not really sure what it was, but I’m really glad it happened to me” – I mean…what else could you want out of a hook? She injects sensual rhythm and a lively spark into each syllable, and as a result, you can hear how enticing the whole sound of that hook truly becomes. Mike also gets his own significant moment in the spotlight with a surge of spectacular instrumentation in the solo that carries the song confidently into its second minute. There’s so much that can STILL be done with this song from here too, if they choose to go that route. Don’t get me wrong, it’s complete as complete can be already – I’m talking about the DJs and clubs…other artists and remixes…when they get their hands on “Glad It Happened To Me,” there’s a great chance this song could end up having a whole variety of different versions, because that’s how universal the groove is, and how alluring the main hooks are.
Honestly, it’s a joy to listen to. It’ll get your head nodding along with the beat, have you dancing in your seat, and quickly get you singing along with Anna in the song’s highly memorable hook. There’s something about “Glad It Happened To Me” that just feels really good to listen to, like on a sensory level. Maybe you weren’t having the greatest of days at work or something…I guarantee if you were to put this single on your playlist and give it five spins, the whole mood of your day would shift into a way more positive direction – that’s what I mean when I say it feels good to listen to this song. Good vibe, good energy, good aura…that’s what I’m talkin’ about, you feel me?
So look…I know that, in a sense, Mike and Anna are exploring what we could still argue is a bit of a dated sound, though I personally like to say tried, tested and true. Anyhow. I do think there’s some validity in that observation – BUT…I’d also tell you that there are artists thriving out there like Veronica Largiu in the scene right now that are building their audience daily with a somewhat similar sound that she’s been working on with Deltiimo, and I’d also tell you that Mike and Anna have proudly embraced the sound that they have to begin with as well. They’re well aware of what they draw from the 70s and 90s, but they’re owning that sound with no need to apologize for it – what they’re doing is not only finding an exciting way to collaborate that’s complementary to each other’s skills, it’s equally complementary to the roots of the style of music they’re playing in how it pays homage to those that came before them.
Like I said from the get-go…no complaints from me – Mike’s musicianship is absolutely sensational, and Anna’s voice is authentically special…combined, they create a familiar style of sound that never seems to get old, and prove this hybrid collaboration has the kind of vibe that’s thriving in its prime right now.
