It’s not always going to be the case where I recommend you watch a video over closing your eyes and just listening to the music…but this might very well be one of those times.  While I personally had a listen to “Haunted By The Past” by Marko Celesty & Fabio Bule as was already impressed before I checked it out myself, watching their brand-new video supporting this single was seriously badass to experience.  As far as I understand it, both Marko & Fabio pride themselves on being highly technical players – you can hear their dedication & passion in their music, and you can certainly see it onscreen.

I freakin’ love this kind of creativity and precision combined.  While the closest I come to listening to stuff like this would be in math-rock bands like the heavy complexities of Hella, or found in a more lighthearted display like what you hear in standards, or Plini, believe me when I tell ya, “Haunted By The Past” holds a ton of appeal to me.  Not just for the way things are played, but for the way they sound as well.  I think it’s true that we all ‘eat with our eyes’ as the famous saying goes…and I feel like that can be very true of music as well.  I was enjoying what I heard from Marko and Fabio to begin with, but seeing them play “Haunted By The Past” in their video took everything to a whole other level.  That’s where you can really see the extraordinary connection that each player has with their instrument and how freakishly superhuman they are when they’re playing together.  Marko’s guitar-work is continually impressive…we’re talkin’ about some extremely intricate musicianship and a fluidity to his performance that’ll outright blow your mind.  It’s clear that he could do what he does all day, every day, and when you consider how complicated what he’s doing truly is…honestly, it’s astounding to experience.  Then you’ve got his cohort, Fabio, who is completely and totally metronomic!  I’ll put it to you this way – the man has to be part machine in order to accomplish what he’s doing, and it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if he set off every metal detector in an airport from being half-robot.  It’s not like this guy is taking it easy by any stretch of the imagination – LISTEN to how many beats he pounds into this song!  His level of precision on “Haunted By The Past” was nothing short of extraordinary.  Dude’s got a kit that looks just as killer as it sounds as well, which you’ll see in the video for the duo’s brand-new single.  From Marko ripping up the frets, to Fabio rolling over the toms, these two musicians put on a masterclass performance throughout “Haunted By The Past” that proves they’ve got the chops to compete with the best of the best.  With a video set in a decrepit, graffiti-ridden building that looks like it could fall down around them at any moment, these two craftsmen show the world what real commitment looks like.

Not like you can’t hear it – their dedication to their music emanates from every pore of your speakers when you put this song on.  What I really love about singles like “Haunted By The Past” is the stunning degree of crossover potential.  Sure, they’re self-categorized as a Metal band, and there’s plenty of Metal to be found in here at the core of what they’re creating – but from my perspective, it’s so much more than what any single genre could describe what it’s like to experience their music.  As in, it’s a brand of Metal that tons of people outside of the genre that listen to other stuff on the fringe of Metal would still totally appreciate, because it’s absolutely interesting & just as equally engaging on a sensory level.  Like, your brain scrambles to try and keep up with what they’re doing, whether it’s what you’re seeing or what you’re hearing – and that undoubtedly sets off a ton of dopamine in your system from the excitement and stimulation.  That right there is the recipe required to convince people that might not listen to Metal in their normal diet, that there’s something extraordinary in what Marko & Fabio do that you’d never want to miss out on.  You watch & listen to a track like “Haunted By The Past” and you’re literally invested in every note, tone, and beat you witness – and how many bands can really say that?  This was an all-out pleasure to witness on all fronts – these two are insanely talented musicians.

It’s funny you know – reviewers and critics like myself encounter all kinds of different people, artists, and promoters out there that’ll try to direct your attention to something we’re about to write about, and in this particular instance, it was the technical skills of Fabio and Marko.  My question in return is, how could ANYONE possibly miss that?  From the moment they start to play, you know that you’re listening to a duo that is savagely special, with skills most other musicians would KILL their own mother to have!  It’s nothing but a pure joy to experience this kind of dedication in action as far as I’m concerned.  There’s not a doubt in my mind that they’ve put the work in to become as great as they are.  You don’t get to this level of outstanding musicianship without putting in every minute you can into your craft along the way…but when you do, you end up with material like this that speaks volumes on its own behalf, even when it’s an instrumental song without any words.  Listen to how kickass Marko’s guitar is as they pass the first minute mark!  Listen to how powerfully mechanical Fabio is when the song hits its peak intensity!  Listen to how genuinely amazing it is to hear them combine their talents given how much is demanded from both of them in terms of the complexities that form “Haunted By The Past!”

This duo is mighty special, I’m tellin’ ya.  This is the kind of intricate music that is a serious privilege to experience.
