HEAVYMUSIK LLC – “Can’t Control Me” / “To The Grave” – Singles Review

It’s always weird to get a track or an album from a couple years back, because it always follows the same basic script.  No one is ever gonna send out an old song or record that didn’t hit, they’re gonna send you something that clearly already worked – like “Can’t Control Me” by HEAVYMUSIK LLC for example, which is still this project’s most popular track to-date as it closes in on 200K hits on Spotify alone.  The fuck does anyone need my opinion for at this point?  There are plenty of people already confirming your song makes sense to the ears, but sure, if you wanna know what I think about it, I’m happy to add one more opinion to the stack I guess?  We’ve got that song to talk about, and one of the newer cuts that has been released this year too…let’s check it all out.

So…hmm.  Six digits of hits is no joke of course…obviously HEAVYMUSIK LLC has had no problem getting people to listen to “Can’t Control Me” since its release back in February of 2023.  It’s super short at less than two & a half minutes in length, but it does have some redeeming features to it.  The music for one thing, is amazing.  I don’t know who is responsible for what & all, but visiting the HEAVYMUSIK LLC page at Instagram would definitely have you believing that the production & all that is handled in-house.  Obviously that’s a good thing, and in this case it’s a great thing – I think the slow burning sound of “Can’t Control Me” is pretty damn special when it comes right down to it, and I certainly get why people would be tuning into this.  As for the Trap on the surface…it has its moments.  I’m not gonna jump up on my soapbox and tell you that what’s coming from the mic is the best thing I’ve ever heard, but I don’t mind it.  Trap is a tough-ass genre to stand out in with such similar rhythms found in the bars and how so much of it comes out sounding like stream of consciousness rap that doesn’t need to adhere to any kind of structure that you could build a traditional hook around.  So from my perspective, it really comes down to one singular element – personality.  If you can put some personality into the m-i-c, then you’ve got a chance of standing out in the Trap world, but without it, you’re guaranteed to drown in the sea of sameness before you even get started into your career.  I’m satisfied enough in that regard…I like what I hear on the mic in “Can’t Control Me,” and I loved those moments where the words continued on almost like an afterthought at different points in this single.  You’ll get what I mean when you hear it for yourself – there are intensely focused bars, and then there are these moments where it’s almost like HEAVYMUSIK LLC continues to spit but has lowered the mic and the recording still picked it up.  That might seem like a small detail or a bizarre reason to like a song, but it’s different, and my ears tend to appreciate different after hearing the same basic things so many times throughout the years.  Truthfully I’d have had a hard time resisting a song like “Can’t Control Me” given that the music is so damn enticing – so I suppose what I’m tellin’ ya is that anything else added to it was like bonus material.  Anyhow.  The point I’m making is that Trap has never been about speed or shifting gears in the flow and whatnot, it’s always been about flexing personality, moods & vibes…and in that respect, I felt like HEAVYMUSIK LLC gives us everything we’re looking for more or less on this particular single.  It has its moments where it feels like it’s roaming around in search of a hook, but frequently lands in spots that make an impact through genuine sincerity instead…and I’m cool with that.  This is majorly mellow Trap for the most part, and I think it’s also commendable to put a track like this out there when everyone’s usually trying to figure out how to pound us with exciting energy.  HEAVYMUSIK LLC chose to take the road less traveled, but as a result, “Can’t Control Me” felt like it secured a victory through authentically substantial content.

Where I would definitely advise some caution, is the use of AI.  Now…don’t get it twisted – I’m not saying that HEAVYMUSIK LLC is using it in the music, but if you’re looking at all the AI-based pictures on the official IG account, and you’re listening to the heavy effects on the vocals in a song like “To The Grave” – it’s a fairly safe bet that at least a few people out there are going to assume the machines have taken control in a case like this if you’re not too careful.  I don’t know if y’all remember when every second track was getting “songified” a while back, probably something like a decade ago now, but yeah…I mean…I listen to a track like “To The Grave” and for sure, it reminds me of that era too…it’s really effects-heavy stuff.  That doesn’t have to be a bad thing – maybe you love that sound…I’m making no judgements here, there’s room for all kinds of music in this world.  “What the fuck y’all want from me?” asks HEAVYMUSIK LLC on “To The Grave,” and I guess if you’re asking me personally, my response would be…more?  I’m not exactly unhappy with what I’m hearing in either of these tunes…they’re listenable enough.  My main concerns would be how static the music can tend to be, it’s like a loop on repeat to an extent…and more dynamics are needed in order to make these tracks exciting, or memorable.  Essentially, HEAVYMUSIK LLC has to decide whether or not being ‘listenable enough’ is what the goal is…and I doubt that’s the case.  So like…we need more in the mix…more than just a breakdown or two…more than just adding an additional instrument every once in a while…real tangible structure, potent dynamics, and that inspired spark that makes us all pay attention & really listen…that’s what HEAVYMUSIK LLC should be aiming for, in my opinion.  What I’m hearing here is a good start, there’s no doubt about that – but I’m hearing so much room for further growth and refinement of the craft.  What’s good is good…I can confirm that…but what I think listeners are likely looking for is greatness, and I’m not quite convinced that HEAVYMUSIK LLC is at that level – yet.  Obviously that can change, and like I remind you all the time, I only ever have singles for a short time before I’m writing about them anyhow…but that being said, I trust my gut enough to know when my ears need a bit more than what they’re getting.  No reason to be down about it – from what I can see, in the world according to Spotify, HEAVYMUSIK LLC has only been dropping cuts online since about the time “Can’t Control Me” came out back in 2023 – so we’re still well on the early side of this whole trajectory, career-wise.  You should always want someone to come along and challenge you to reach that next level…you should always want room to grow and evolve in what you do.  HEAVYMUSIK LLC is on the right path, but I have no doubt the best days of this project will be found in the future, not the past.  With as much music as HEAVYMUSIK LLC has claimed to be creating, time and experience will lead this project created by Bravo Diablo in the right direction as he keeps sharpening his skills over the years ahead.
