Gratitude!

That was the break I needed y’all. A vacation to remember without a doubt…so good in fact, that I already want another…but I should probably get back to work for a while first. You’ve made a whole bunch of music that I need to listen to, and it’s about time I got back to sharing my opinions with ya.
We’ll cover some of the highlights and details of our trip down south the USA on the next episode of This Is Just My Life Now, The Podcast, whenever that comes out (This month? Maybe? Hopefully?)…but to give you a snapshot view of all we accomplished during our two weeks away, it was something along the lines of…
…driving from just outside of Vancouver to Seattle…stopping briefly to check out our friend Aaron Lindstrom’s (Lindstrom And The Limit) stunning new chocolate shop/live music venue combo called Cocoa Legato (No joke folks, check this place out it’s awesome and the chocolate is beyond incredible) before seeing a concert from Garbage at the Paramount…then we drove to a city called Pomona to see the one & only Annie DiRusso killin’ it live in California…then we drove on to San Diego for my aunt’s wedding where we saw Hand Over Heart keep the guests entertained, and my sister Ajaye take over a place called Beaumont’s the next day for a three hour show…then we drove off to LA to get in on those theme parks we love…you know…Six Flags…Disneyland…all that stuff, we love it, we’re just big kids…and then we had to stop at Intuit dome to see our favorite basketball team (The LA Clippers) crush their season opener with a huge W (For real…the Beard got a 30 piece and we beat Phoenix like we were playing their college team)…then on into the heart of the city for a show with Superchunk headlining to check that off the bucket-list at long last…more theme park trips…then eventually back the other direction to see Marc Rebillet dominate Channel 24 in Sacramento with surprise special guest Reggie Watts, before we drove through a monsoon the day after on Halloween that forced us to take longer to get back home than we originally intended…but we did eventually fight through the storm to get back to BC, claimed our pupper from the kennel, dropped off the rental car…and I’m still alive to tell the tales of it all. Non-stop fun for two weeks straight, packed schedule from beginning to end…just the way I like it. Bonus shout-outs to new names of openers we got to see throughout our travels like Starcrawler, Case Oats, and CAPYAC as well. Every name I’ve mentioned in here made this a genuinely unforgettable trip start to finish.
I’m looking forward to sharing all the behind the scenes details with ya…and like I said, we’ll get to that on the next episode of our podcast here at the main site later this month (I think?). In the meantime, I just wanted to send a special shout-out of gratitude to all the names above for playing a huge role in what made this vacation so freakin’ great. From old friends to family, independent concerts to mainstream ones, theme parks, and a whole lotta insanely good meals at BJ’s in LA…we had an excellent time & can’t wait to do it all again.
I’ll spend a little more time listening to the backlog of tunes I’ve got here before officially coming back this week…maybe a day or two more and we’ll resume the regularly scheduled program you’ve come to expect from us at sleepingbagstudios. Well…as close as it can be to regular…we’re still moving in the middle of November, and have tickets for four different concerts this month as well (Petey, Belly, The Beths, and the Finger Eleven/Headstones/Tea Party show – see you there?) – so…yeah…I mean…a little patience might still be required before we’re fully settled, but along the way we’ll do our level best to keep ya entertained and informed about the latest highlights/submissions from this independent scene we love and share with ya. It was great to be gone, but I’m always happy to be back and check out what you’ve come up with next – so hang tight…stoked to talk about all these new tunes with you all.
