EPTA7 – “The Walls Breathe” / “Zombies Of The Third Millennium” – Singles Review

How’s that old saying go again?  Something old, something new, something-something, something else?

Something like that I reckon.

Anyhow.  That’s kind of what we’ve got here today, with a slice from the first record by EPTA7, and a cut that’s from their upcoming album in this review.  From what I have gathered from these notes scattered across my dimly lit & dusty desk, it appears that this Irish-Italian Dark-Alt/Industrial-Metal project traces all the way back to 2012 when it was originally conceived in Dublin.  Flash forward to 2026 and they’re cookin’ at full steam – they released their debut record Here Come The Freaks earlier this year, and they’re already hard at work putting the finishing touches on their second.  You know, standard story – you get excited, you form a band, then you really think about what you wanna do with it for FOURTEEN YEARS, and voila, you can finally consider it all properly incubated and really start making music, right?

Alright…maybe that’s not EXACTLY what happened, but it’s close enough that it’ll do.  What I can tell you is this – I put on “The Walls Breathe” and felt like all that pent up energy EPTA7 had was to their benefit.  An instantly impressive single, this feels like it was designed to haunt your spirit and cling to your bloody bones long after it has stopped playing.  For real – it’d be way shorter for me to list the things I don’t like about it, because there really ain’t anything on that list whatsoever.  This is Industrial music done right as far as my ears are concerned.  Tinged with a gothic vibe, EPTA7 sounds like they’re straight from the underground – approximately six feet underground, if you catch my drift – and hell yeah, I’m here for it!  “The Walls Breathe” is a master-class track that generates nonstop intrigue, and from my perspective, it comes along with a whole lot more accessibility than you’d normally find within the genre.  Now, it’s going to be up to them if that’s a good or a bad thing…I’m not here to judge all that.  I wouldn’t go as far as to say this is music for your momma unless she’s hella badass…but I am saying that a track like “The Walls Breathe” has a more artistic scope to its sound that is bound to appeal to a lot more folks than you might expect.  Whether you’re a direct fan of Industrial, or you’ve been circling the fringe looking for a way to get into it, I genuinely feel like EPTA7 has got something for you on this single right here.  To be honest, I think I was a little surprised by it myself!  That’s just the thing though…if you’ve put in the work and the attention to detail, you stand the chance to win people over, every time.  “The Walls Breathe” is a stellar example of how you can go about creating a song that’s outside of the mainstream, yet still find a way to give it widespread appeal.  The vocals are freakin’ savage…I love’em…the whole sound is deadly and whether or not you’re judging from the music or what’s happening on the microphone, it works.  Having two vocalists ain’t a bad call by this band either, especially considering they’re both a perfect fit.  Sprinkle in a bit of extra nightmare fuel with the added creepy ambient sounds in the mix and the frightening imagery in the lyricism…I mean, call me crazy, but I truly feel like they’ve got something seriously strong with this cut from Here Come The Freaks.  I’d absolutely listen to this, and have several times since it came my way already, with every intention of spinning it a whole lot more in the future to follow.  “The Walls Breathe” is one hell of a first impression…or perhaps it’s one first impression of hell.

Leaning towards a harder edge on “Zombies Of The Third Millennium” that brings their sound closer to comparisons like KMFDM, Ministry, My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult and such, the main question is going to be whether or not this broadens their audience, or narrows it.  Personally speaking, I think the quality they’ve put into their music gives it a remarkable chance of finding people, regardless of this particular track being a bit harder than most folks tend to go if we’re talkin’ about the masses.  That being said, I still believe that EPTA7 is making the right moves for what THEY want to create…and in my opinion, if listeners happen to come along with them as they surge into this next chapter, then great – but it’s not something they need to directly cater to.  How’s that other saying go?  If you build it, they will come?  Something like that…and I suspect that’s the truth here.  I think that EPTA7 has an extremely solid grip on how to do what they’re doing – I mean…like…what else could you want other than the five minutes of complete chaos and musical mayhem they create in this digital takedown called “Zombies Of The Third Millennium?”  The aim their vicious sound directly at the effects of BIG TECH, streaming idiocracy, and the bullshit algorithms that have taken control of most of our lives – it’s honestly cleverly thought-out stuff that proves EPTA7 has something REAL to say beyond the ferocious sound they’re pumping out.  You won’t find me complaining about that combination.  Their two vocalists are crushing it once again, the music is MAMMOTH, and the ideas they display in both of those main arenas are absolutely wild.  What I think I might enjoy most about it all is the level of competence and control they display.  When you think about how easy it could be for a project like this to get entirely unhinged in the worst of ways, you have to admire how EPTA7 has been able to keep everything on the rails gliding along as smoothly as it is while they’re droppin’ lyrical bombs and setting the whole damn world on fire as they cruise through the fiery sound of “Zombies Of The Third Millennium.”  I’m not going to even remotely pretend I’ve got the slightest clue as to how the sausage is made here, but I don’t think that matters in comparison to the final results…you want a kickass Industrial song that’s bulletproof from start to finish?  Look no further than “Zombies Of The Third Millennium” – EPTA7 went absolutely SCORCHED EARTH with this second cut, revealing full proof that they were able to level up the powerful dynamics of their sound for the next record ahead.  Again, that extra heaviness is likely going to appeal to some more than others, by comparison to the sleeker design of a track like “The Walls Breathe,” but whatever…the world keeps on turning round regardless last I checked…as long as they’re happy with what they’ve got coming out, then that’s all that really matters, and as far as I can tell, they should be fucking STOKED for their future ahead if it’s gonna sound like either of these two tracks, or even a combination of both.  I don’t have any specifics as to when their next album, rumored to be called Schengen Reload, officially comes out…but give’em all the room they need to keep cookin’ like they are.  Quality takes time – I think that’s another saying someone said at some point in time isn’t it?  Well…that’s fucking true too.  This project is impressive on all fronts y’all…whatever they need to do to keep doin’ things the way they are, is exactly what they should do and nothing less.  I’ve got no advice on how they could do anything better than they already are – everything I’ve heard from EPTA7 is strong enough to knock you on your ass as you listen, and have you lining up to take another sonic beatdown from them before your bruises even heal.
