Alias Wayne – “Manifest Destiny” – Single Review

Smooth Alias Wayne…real smooth.

To quote from the song direct, “Mmm, mmm, mmm, mmm!”  For reals y’all – this is one tasty track!

I think the most you’ll find me conceding to ya is that the chorus doesn’t quite hit as hard as the verses do in terms of impact, but that’s not me saying what you’ll hear isn’t still a good fit.  Reality is what it is dear readers, dear friends…sometimes you end up stronger hooks in a verse than you do in a chorus, it happens more often than you might think.  Ultimately, while we basically all expect to find the most juice in the hooks of a chorus, I don’t think the masses are ever really going to complain all that much as long as there ARE some hooks present somewhere, you know what I mean?  “Manifest Destiny” has some absolutely outstanding rhythm & groove that’ll keep everyone listening onboard without a doubt.

I’ve always said that one strong part of a song can carry the whole load when it comes to the verdict in the court of public opinion, and I feel like this single might benefit from the truth in that statement.  I don’t mind what I hear in the chorus at all – I just don’t think it’s the main selling feature here in talking to you about this song.  It’s still a quality part of the song, and it’s still executed magnificently by Alias Wayne too – all I’m saying is that it’s gonna be the verses of “Manifest Destiny” that’ll keep you coming back to it again and again.  Does that make me the bad guy for saying that?  If it does, then so be it y’all.

Regardless of how I might feel about this part or that part in this single, I didn’t find anything in here that I didn’t enjoy listening to – it all works, and it’s genuinely one of the best performances I’ve heard from Alias Wayne to-date.  Hearing the sly way he weaves around with such a slick & silky smoothness in the verses with such a high degree of that natural swagger we love to hear in this dude’s music…I mean…it’s just an absolute treat for the ears here.  It can often be amazing to me how Alias Wayne is able to get such a loose vibe to sound as tight as it does, but if that ain’t the hallmark of a true professional at work, I’m not so sure I could find you a better example.  Alias Wayne gets a significant dose of personality into so much of what he creates, and the more we get of it, the better our response to his music has been.  When things come out sounding as stellar as they do on “Manifest Destiny,” you recognize that the looseness you hear is 100% intentional and woven into the fabric of this dude’s vibe.

Regardless of how truly naturally that all comes to this guy, it’s not always an easy sound and style to get onto a recording successfully.  Too laidback & you’ll sound lazy or like you’re not putting in a respectable amount of effort…but the flipside of that coin, is the intentional looseness that Alias Wayne is playing with here, which clearly illuminates the work in the execution by its stunning attention to all the finest details.  Whether it’s the clarity in the recording, the jazzy swagger & beat-poet spirit of Alias Wayne’s vocals, the perfection of the percussion, the complementary sound of the backing vocals…everything is right where you wanna find it on “Manifest Destiny.”  Does he wander off a bit in the second verse from where he started thematically?  Maybe.  I guess I’d listen to that argument, though it still kind of fits underneath the umbrella of the core ideas at the heart of the lyricism on “Manifest Destiny,” from my perspective, and I guess I share that with Alias Wayne or he wouldn’t have put that in here, right?  The last potential issue here is the length…it’s definitely lengthy at 6:27, and when you consider the fact that you always spend more time with the chorus than you do the verses in 99.9% of all songs recorded in music history, well…I mean…if you love the verses as much as I do, then it’s a bit disproportionate in that sense, ain’t it?  I’ll let it slide, because I never felt cheated by any part of this song, even if I did come out feeling like one of the pieces was stronger than the others.  Like I said, that’s gonna happen sometimes, but it doesn’t necessarily ever stop you from loving a song overall, and I’d say that’s exactly how I feel about “Manifest Destiny.”  It’s one of the best songs I’ve heard from Alias Wayne without question, and I definitely feel comfortable enough in saying that it might very well be one of the better singles released in all of 2025.
