Adam Pearce & The Dreamers – “There Is No Spoon”

Adam Pearce & The Dreamers – “There Is No Spoon” – Single Review
Never let it be said that I don’t do my research.
You get so many different pieces of information when you’re in promotions, so it’s kind of imperative that you vet the things that come your way. I’d read about Adam Pearce being a contestant on The Voice – two times in fact (Seasons 12 & 13)…and of course that’s impressive to a degree. I’ll admit, I don’t really watch the show…but after hearing Adam’s tunes, I’m really starting to rethink that decision. What really sold me on this dude before I pushed play though, was when I was sitting here, checking out what Adam Pearce has been up to online at his YouTube channel…and good lord almighty this guy has amazing taste in music. It wasn’t just that he was covering songs from many of my favorite bands and artists – he was also like, covering some of their most outstanding material. Not the songs you’d know from just being singles and such, but the deeper cuts that make a record great. Songs like “Mailman” by Soundgarden…”In The Blood” by Better Than Ezra…”Call Me A Dog” by Temple Of The Dog…and guilty pleasures like “Dancing In The Moonlight” by King Harvest…mostly stuff that is not only considered classics in a life like mine where you’ve been born Grunge, but material that is by no means whatsoever a cakewalk to sing…I mean, half the list I just pulled for you at random is sung by Chris Cornell, so that should already tell ya something about the kind of wild chops Pearce has on the mic, right? So to say I started to get really, really excited about the prospect of what I might hear in pushing play on the new single “There Is No Spoon” by Adam Pearce & The Dreamers would be a massive understatement y’all.
In the case of this particular single, he’s not too far off something I’d have expected to hear from the catalog of a legend like Kenny Wayne Shepherd, but sung the way you’d hear someone like Cornell take it on during his Audioslave era. That’s a roundabout way of saying HELLS YES – I LOVE what I’m hearing on “There Is No Spoon,” and within a single spin of this tune, it was entirely obvious as to why people have been making such a big deal about what Pearce can do. He’s the real deal…the genuine article…a man with an outright amazing voice, and an artist that completely understands the right space to get the very best outta himself. Like, you could cite things like the clear Zeppelin influence on a track like “There Is No Spoon” too…it’s fully rooted in Blues Rock when it comes right down to it. You’ll see a ton of Led Zeppelin covers on his channel at YouTube too…so it’s fair to say that the influence on his own sound comes from an honest place of respect and admiration for those that paved the way before him. Then you’ll hear Adam crank out a note that’ll just blow your mind on “There Is No Spoon,” and you start to realize he could freakin’ cover the most demanding material if he felt so inclined…end-level boss type of tunes, like say, “Gasoline” by Audioslave – I bet he could crush that every bit as much as Cornell could. Then there’s this like…debut record-era Blind Melon-esque sound that the music and production comes into every so often along the ride through “There Is No Spoon” – I’m tellin’ ya folks, it’s got a little something for everyone, and given Adam’s chameleon-esque abilities, he’s bound to remind you of a few of the names I’ve mentioned, and a few more of your own comparisons I’m sure. What’s crystal clear though, is that he’s no carbon copy…he’s just got the kind of versatility most singers would kill for.
If I had any concerns, you regular readers know I’d be the first to tell you. The facts speak strongly on their own behalf though – this guy is insanely good. The band he’s playing with is equally badass too if you ask me…there’s literally nothing that I don’t love about “There Is No Spoon.” Take that from a guy that usually has a heavy resistance to Blues Rock too eh? From what’s happening in the musicianship to what’s happening on the microphone, Adam Pearce & The Dreamers understood the mission, and they set out to conquer from start to finish. As to where the spoon has gone, or why it was needed in the first place…I’ll admit, I’m at a bit of a loss as to what the heck its significance could have been, but in listening to this single…honestly, I don’t think knowing its whereabouts will be the determining factor as to whether or not you like or love what you’ll hear. When something sounds THIS DAMN GOOD, you just accept things as they are, and why wouldn’t ya? Adam Pearce is an incredible talent, the entire band he’s playing with is as red hot as it gets…all I know is that I went from not knowing who the man even was, to becoming a raging die-hard fan within what seemed like a mere instant. “There Is No Spoon” is THAT incredible y’all…Adam could convert even the most resistant listener with what he’s got goin’ on in this single…he and his dreamers should be on every single one of our playlists right now.
